Orionid Meteor Shower

The Orionid meteor shower peaks this week and it could be a very good show, as previous years has shown. The best time to look is before sunrise on Wednesday, October 21st. This is when the Earth encounters the densest part of Halley’s debris stream. The Orionids appear every year around this time when the Earth orbits through an area of space littered with debris from the comet. I wonder if I will be able to observe this with all the crappy weather New Jersey has been receiving.

On a side note: President Obama will be visiting Fairleigh Dickinson University on Wednesday, October 21st, to endorse Corzine’s re-election campaign. Getting to work on Wednesday will be a bitch-and-a-half. Management has yet to decide if we’re essential personnel. If we aren’t essential to the University, then, I get another unpaid day-off.
